If you are marketing online, one of the most important tasks is building a list of qualified prospects who are interested in what you have to offer. Once you start building a list, it is up to you to try and build a relationship with that list. If you do not have their telephone information, the only way you can build your relationship is through email marketing.
Email marketing is very effective if you are giving people helpful information. Your emails are a way for you to connect with people who have an interest in what you are offering. If you are consistently and steadily giving out helpful and relevant information, your relationship will grow with your list on a physical and on a subconscious level.
However if you emails don’t even reach your list, those valuable relationships will never occur. You need to make sure that your email subject lines are intriguing enough to be opened. However more important than that, you need to take precautions to make sure your emails do not end up in their spam folders.
Here are 5 tips to make sure you avoid the spam filters and your emails reach their indented destination:
- Using ALL CAPS when typing a subject is not a good idea. If you want to really get your message across, come up with an engaging title and people will open it.
- Unfortunately using the words network marketing, business opportunity or MLM have put up red flags. Do not use these in your subject line.
- Avoid using the word “free”. This word has been used too much by spammers that just the word in your subject line is enough for it to be placed in the spam folder. This is why you may be seeing F*R*E*E or FR-EE…People are trying to avoid the spam filters.
- Avoid using more than 1 exclamation point!! This is a mark of a spammer, and is not tolerated anymore.
- Money is also a no-no. Having $ signs or “Make Money Fast” will put up red flags with the spam filters
Now if you’re emailing you list, I’m assuming you are using an email service. One thing you need to be aware of is that not all email services are made alike. Now they may all get the job done, however it’s up to your server to decide it they want to let an email through.
To give you an example, sometimes emails you voluntarily signed up to receive, always go into your spam folder. They aren’t spam, so why did they go there? Well it doesn’t mean the emails are spam, it means that the service they are coming from is known to send spam. So any messages coming from this service are determined to be spam by your server. So when choosing an email service, make sure you choose one who has a very low number of spam complaints. I use and would completely recommend Aweber. They are on most everyone’s “whitelist” of approved email services.
Stick to these suggestions and your email messages will not end up in anyone’s junk or spam folders. Now if you don’t have a list, or your list is very small, you need to make sure you have a great system put in place to capture these leads. Your message could be the greatest in the world, but if you don’t have anyone listening to you, then your message stays only with you!
