Do you find yourself wishing you had more time in the day, or looking at your list and thinking “oh, no, I only got one thing done today! Where did my day go?”
If so, the following 7 tips will help you be more productive in your life right now!
When you start implementing these tips into your day, it will be much easier for you to find “time gaps” to help you be more productive each day. As a result, increased productivity will help you feel better and make it easier for you to get things done.
So here’s the thing most people don’t understand about time management… You can’t actually manage time. Therefore, all you can do is manage yourself in time.
How to be More Productive
Tip # 1 Recognize Your Mental Energy Output
First, you need to recognize how much anxiety or mental burden you are feeling at any given moment. This can be tricky because it can be an underlying thing that is happening to you and hard to get a handle on. But, it can really be a drag on your productivity, because you have a bunch of things on your mind that are bothering you and take up your time and mental energy.
Therefore, it is very important to pay attention and be aware of your stress and anxiety levels so you can figure out where it is coming from, and then take the steps to release it.
Even if you feel like you don’t have time to relax, it will actually help you be more productive in the long run!
So when you realize that you are stressing or have anxiety while trying to get things done, take a moment and calm yourself down…such as exercise, take a bath, listen to music, watch one tv show episode.
Once you are calm and your energy is back you can focus on the activities that will make you be more productive. Consequently, this will help you get things done faster and easier because you won’t be expending your mental energy on things that cause you anxiety.
Tip # 2: Create Your Morning Ritual
The second thing to help you be more productive during your day is to have a morning routine…. Something you do on a regular basis that puts you in charge of your day and helps you feel calm and energized to tackle your day.
However, make sure your morning routine belongs to you. It does not need to be a long one or an extravagant one. It just needs to be some things that works for you each and every day that help you get in the right mental frame of mind so you can start your day in the best way. This also helps prevent anxiety or heads it off and helps you feel more in control.
There are many great examples and resources for morning routines, and one of the books that I highly recommend if you are interested in starting a morning ritual is the book “Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod. You can click here or on the image below to view it on Amazon.
Tip # 3: Create Daily Work Blocks
This tip is more common sense, however it’s absolutely necessary for you to be more productive in your life. Regardless of how busy your days are, you can look for commonalities in your days and create work blocks throughout your day. Once you figure out when your work blocks will take place, then, you can figure out what you will do during each of the work blocks.
One thing to keep in mind when creating your work blocks is the type of activities you will do in each block. For example, brainstorming and creating content takes a totally different mindset than filling in numbers in a spreadsheet. Plan ahead so that you clump your similar work tasks together so you don’t have to switch mental energy between each task. This will slow down your production for each task.
One other thing to keep in mind is that it’s also important to give yourself enough time between or inside your work blocks to accommodate “transition” time. When switching activities, creating those few minutes will help put you “in flow” a lot faster and easier… will will allow you to be more productive in each of your work blocks! Is your lack of productivity holding you back? And of course – if you take the time to create a schedule, and you’ve included different work blocks in it – stick to it! In other words, do what you said you would do in that work block at that time.
Doing this will keep you on track and make you be more productive rather than trying to fit things in here and there or on the fly when you have free time.
Tip # 4: Prioritize The Night Before
This tip has helped MANY people be more productive. Before you go to sleep, take a moment and think about what absolutely has to get done the next day for you to feel satisfied and accomplished in your day.
Ideally come up with at least 3 things you want to complete the next day. They can be business or personal related, it doesn’t matter. Write them down on a notepad or in a note on your phone before you go to sleep.
That way when you wake up the next day, you know what you need to do without spending extra time thinking about it. (It may seem common sense, but taking a moment to do this in the evening when your brain is focused on what’s to come, will drastically help you be more productive the next day) . Instead of sitting down and wondering “what do I need to do today” you will be ready to accomplish it out of the gate!
Tip # 5: Batch Your Work Activities
“Batching” is an important concept that will help you be a lot more productive in your life if you really understand WHY this process is so helpful. It goes right along with your work blocks. If you have items that are similar in type or scope, plan to do them together in the same block.
For example, composing an email makes you think creatively as does coming up with content ideas. Or if you know you need to make a video, plan to make a few at the same time. Additionally, batching your work alleviates the need for lots of transition time for each task.
Tip # 6: Get Help – Outsource
The sixth tip to help you be more productive is to find someone to help you. This doesn’t mean that you have to hire someone. You can get help and not have to pay for it!
Take a moment to think about the things that you don’t like to do, or you just don’t have time to do…
Then find someone who does like to do those things, or has extra time to do them for you. If it’s a simple job, it will be worth it to pay so you can focus your time on more money-generating activities. However, just by thinking outside the box, or putting a post on social media for what kind of help you’re looking for, is likely to yield some people interested in helping you. You could offer to do something for him/her (barter or trade) for their service. That way it’s a win for both of you.
Tip # 7: Schedule “ME” Time!
Finally, the last and most important tip to help you be more productive is to schedule time for YOU. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it is something that you enjoy that allows you to decompress and relieve stress.
…It could be getting a massage, going shopping, going out to eat with a friend or it could be as simple as watching a tv show, reading a good book, or playing a game on your phone for a few minutes.
Regardless of whether you think you have time for you or not, you need to make time. Feeling good and relaxed will help you be so much more productive than when you are stressed and anxious.
It gives you a whole new outlook and allows you to move forward easier with your schedule instead of feeling like it is a chore.
These seven tips will specifically help you be more productive throughout your day with the time you have. They will help you be more productive with your life as a whole as well. So, go take action on some or all of them today.
