Are you considering writing a blog? Choosing a blogging platform can be overwhelming for new bloggers. Choosing the right kind of blog is important as a beginner. There are many trainings on the topic, but if you pick a platform that is too advanced for your skill level, you might get confused before ever getting started. There are many blogging sites, but in my opinion the top two blogging platforms are Blogger and Word Press.
Blogger is a great platform for newbies because it’s free, easy to use, easy to post articles, easy to navigate and easy to meet other bloggers. This might be a good platform to start on because it’s free and the platform is user friendly. This is also a good place for a personal blog as well. You can be up and running in a short amount of time.
Blogger does have a downside though. Once you become an advanced user, you will want to create a blog that is more tailored to “you”. Blogger does not have many customizable options and you will be limited to simple templates. Also, because your blog is hosted on their website, you will never “own” your blog. All of your material could be be deleted on a whim (if you abuse Blogger terms of service).
The other platform is Word Press (WP). The majority of the people who use WP are experienced bloggers or have knowledge about html and css. There are many more features to Word Press than Blogger, but if you are not familiar with html, this would certainly take you longer to set up, however it is very doable. Word Press has many more templates and customized options.
Word Press actually has two parts. WordPress.org, and WordPress.com. WordPress.com is the free site where you still have custom options, but you are using Word Press to host your blog. The same rules apply here as it does to Blogger; where your blog does not belong to you, but to Word Press, as they are hosting it for you. With WP, you will have a site name such as “yourname”.wordpress.com. For this reason most advanced bloggers use Worpress.org and pay a separate company (such as Host Gator, or Go Daddy) for their personal domain name and to host the site. This gives total control to the blogger and maximizes the customization of their site.
So the choice is yours, if you want a free blog that is easy to use and beginner friendly, choose Blogger. If you want more options and know a little bit about html and css, then I would choose Word Press.
