If you notice that the phrase “Multi Level Marketing” and “Network Marketing” have one word in common, and that’s “marketing”. Once people join a business to earn income from home, they quickly realize they have a large learning curve ahead of them. They have to learn the specifics of their new company, but not only that, they also have to learn how to talk to people about their business opportunity or products. Yet I find it very interesting that people don’t really take the time to learn the most important word in this industry– which is marketing.
There are many ways to market, but new effective approach is to market online. The internet is by far a wider audience to market to. After all where in the world can you write one little post about your business, and millions have access to seeing it? One of the first places small business owners go to market online is on the social media platforms. These would include Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Linkedin, and even YouTube. When deciding to market your MLM through social media, there are a few do’s and don’ts that you should be aware of.
Don’t:
- Don’t become a spammer. No one wants to see the same posts over and over again. This will quickly annoy any friends that you have generated.
- Don’t add friends, just to have a higher number. Make sure you have a connection to these friends.
-Don’t “throw up” on your friends. This phrase refers to anyone who’s only interest is to tell everyone how great their business opportunity is.
Do’s:
-Gain a genuine following by giving out helpful information to your friends and followers.
-Add friends or followers daily who are connected to you in some way, and let them know something personal about you when you are requesting friendship.
-Build relationships! This should be your number one goal. Not to recruit everyone you meet online.
-Think of social media as a party. Mingle around, get to know people, be friendly, and after both people have had a chance to get to know each other, then and only then, can you talk business.
These are some simple suggestions to get you started when you decide to start trying to market yourself and your business online. Notice I said “yourself”. This is extremely important. There is a big difference between marketing online as opposed to marketing offline.
Offline you want people to associate you with your business, so that when they think of someone who can benefit from your product or service, you are the first person who comes to their mind. However online, you are just a name. You are not the only person in your company online. If you are only promoting your company, you are doing community service. You are shouting the wonderfulness of your company. Well when someone goes to do more research about your “great opportunity” they won’t find you, they will find someone who has learned how to market online and they will sign up with them. Marketing yourself and not just your business opportunity online will guarantee this will not happen.
Now if you’re going to market your MLM through social media, then these are some great tips to get you started. However this is only a beginning. Marketing online effectively takes training, and a leveraged system to give you full advantage of what the internet has to offer.
