Who is Your Target Market?

As soon as you join a MLM, you are told to create “Your List”.   Write down everyone you know and pitch them your opportunity.  This is how you build your team.  This is how your upline and their upline did it, so it must work right?  Well in my opinion, this is absurd.  This may build your downline, but it will also give you a sense of disappointment down the road.  Not everyone is an entrepreneur, or set up to own their own business.  When the money doesn’t come rolling in right away, they decide it isn’t worth it.  You are then back to square one and you don’t have any warm market left!

This is actually something that very few MLM companies ever really train you on.   Most of us do not want to talk to our friends and family members.  So what do you do?  You need to find people that have the entrepreneur mindset.  You need to seek out people who are already in the industry.  Someone in network marketing already believes in the system.  You don’t have to explain why your opportunity isn’t a pyramid scheme.  Someone who fits this description might be open to hearing about another opportunity that might mesh with their current one.  Now I’m not saying to pitch your biz opt to other network marketers – this will NEVER work.  Get to know like minded people, build a relationship, and be helpful.  This will go years beyond pitching a business opportunity.

You also need to learn to completely be yourself and be transparent in your marketing. The more transparent you are, the more you will attract like minded people to you. You must keep it real!  Prospects need to be able to connect with you and relate to you and the way you do this, is to be yourself.
